After a blockbuster start to the new season of Indian Premier League by Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore last night, it’s a clash between Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals tonight.
Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have played 23 games against each other, where Mumbai is leading by 12-11. The last time Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals locked horns, Mumbai Indians were struggling hard to reach the playoffs. However, the already eliminated Delhi Capitals defeated Mumbai Indians by 11 runs spoiling the fun for Rohit Sharma and company.
However, last year was bad for both the teams. Mumbai Indians disappointed their fans by not being able to perform up to the mark. The fans are very anticipated for them to win this season of IPL. The players too will be looking forward to having a great season ahead. But the biggest concern for the team will be to manage the workload of players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, all three of them are crucial players of the upcoming World Cup.
Talking about Delhi Capitals, though they have not laid their hands on the trophy yet, still they have enough fire-power this time in their line-up to give tough competitions.
And we never know the young lads in the team might dominate the game and turn the tables for rest of the teams.
There’s no deny to the fact that the match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals is going to be very interesting tonight. Here, we bring you five things to watch out for in the Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals tonight :
1.Rohit vs Dhawan :
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, the opening duo of the Indian cricket team, have a separate fan base for their partnership. However, it will be even more interesting to see them play against each other.
Shikhar Dhawan returned to his home franchise ahead of this season, after contributing his whole and soul to Sunrisers Hyderabad. He notched up 497 runs in 16 games last year to reach to the finals. On the other hand, Hit-Man Sharma’s captaincy and performance has always worked in wonders for the team.
2. Shreyas Iyer’s Captaincy :
The young lad replaced Gautam Gambhir as the captain of Delhi Capitals last season, when the former walked out. Delhi won a few matches under Shreyas’ captaincy towards the end of the last season but ended up being last on the points table.
The similar thing happened with Rohit Sharma in the year 2013, when he replaced Ricky Ponting as the captain of Mumbai Indians and went on to script their first title. Today, they are one of the two most successful IPL teams with three trophies with them.
Shreyas Iyer can take heart from Rohit’s performance and also has precedent, Gautam Gambhir, to take encouragement from. It will be interesting to see jis performance and how he will manage the team. Talking about taking the Delhi Capitals to winning side, in an interview, Shreyas had said :
“Don’t want to think about India selection now, leading DC to victory is my first priority”
3. Pandya Brothers :
Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya, both of them have been the key players for the Mumbai Indians squad. Last year, Krunal Pandya impressed everyone with his performance. He played 14 matches and went on to score 228 runs. He took 12 wickets last year.
Hardik Pandya, on the other hand, recently made his comeback to international cricket after a brief layoff due to his injury. He made a powerful and impressed with the ball and the bat. Before the world cup, he will have to be on top of his game and also take his team to the victory side.
4. Rishabh Pant :
Rishabh Pant, the young wicket-keeper and batsman, has become the most talked about players since a few months. He has impressed one and all with his performance and aggressive style of batting.
In the last season as well, Rishabh Pant was on fire as he kept everyone on the edge of their seats during his fire-power knock. He tormented the bowling line-ups and scored a total of 684 runs at an average of 52.61, becoming one of the top scorers last year. His knock of 128*off 63 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad was the highest individual score in the last season.
Biding his spot for world cup’s playing squad, Rishabh Pant will look to replicate his heroics with the bat. Delhi Capitals will be relying heavily on Rishabh Pant. It will be interesting to see how he will be able to absorb in all the pressure and perform.
5.Comeback Of Yuvraj Singh :
Yuvraj Singh, the world-cup hero, has been one of the most traded players of the IPL over all these years. He has been a part of six teams. From being the most expensive players for many years to being the biggest players to be sold at the base price, Yuvraj Singh has seen it all.
There was a time when he became the most expensive Indian cricketers to be bought in the auction for Rs.14 crores by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the year 2014. Later, he became the most expensive player bought in the auction for Rs 15 crore in the year 2015 by Delhi Daredevils. However, this time he went unsold in the first round of the auctions courtesy his consistent poor performance. This came out as a huge shocker for his fans. He was later roped in by Mumbai Indians for his base price of Rs.1 crore.
For the type of swashbuckling batsman that he has been, the fans are eagerly waiting for the comeback of Yuvraj Singh and to witness his heroic stints once again on the ground. This season is going to be a decider season for him. Tonight, it will be interesting to see if he will be able to bounce back.
